They recognise that their systems need to meet the specific goals of the domain requirements and also to have been thoroughly evaluated, for acceptability by clinicians. Evaluation can be thought of as being subjectivist and objectivist. Most papers on “evaluation” in the medical literature are subjectivist based and tend to gloss over the more formal objectivist approaches. Where assessment of errors are concerned, the alternative of mathematical literature tends to deal with complex classification theory issues. This means that there is a lack of guidelines of a practicable nature to allow the researchers to gauge what a sufficiency of evaluation is. This can lead to the core objectivist evaluation of performance accuracy receiving least attention. It is hoped to rectify this, by concentrating on the methodology of formal quantitative evaluation of system output and disseminating the information.

Evaluation: salvation or nemesis of medical informatics?
The currently prevailing paradigms of evaluation in medical/health informatics are reviewed. Some problems with application of the objectivist approach to the evaluation of real-rather than simulated-(health) information systems are identified. The rigorous application of the objectivist approach, which was developed for laboratory experiments, is difficult to adapt to the evaluation of informa...
متن کاملA New Approach for Knowledge Based Systems Reduction using Rough Sets Theory (RESEARCH NOTE)
Problem of knowledge analysis for decision support system is the most difficult task of information systems. This paper presents a new approach based on notions of mathematical theory of Rough Sets to solve this problem. Using these concepts a systematic approach has been developed to reduce the size of decision database and extract reduced rules set from vague and uncertain data. The method ha...
